Santa Maria del Fiore’s Dome is an absolute masterpiece of all times and the most distinctive icon of Florence skyline. The Dome itself embodies all the fundamental attributes of Renaissance aesthetics: it’s simple, elegant and with harmonious proportions. Covered with red terracotta roof shingles, divided in eight wedges defined by white ribs, with its white lantern made with Carrara marble on top, the Dome express a unique beauty. The great architect Filippo Brunelleschi planned in 1420 a brilliant and innovative structure with a double skull cap for this Dome, which is the biggest stonework ever built. This is the highest panoramic spot of the city, with a total height of 117 mt and an external diameter of 55 mt, visible even from a 70 km distance! You have to climb up 463 steps to reach the top, but nothing can compare the feeling of reaching the peak of such an iconic monument, laying the eyes to a breath-taking view of the city and its hills, losing yourself in the endless panorama of the Tuscan countryside! On your way up you will discover the grand frescoes by Giorgio Vasari and Federico Zuccari, which decorate with their vivid colours the immense inner part of the Dome, another privilege that you can enjoy only with this ascent. You will have our audio-guide that, like a local friend, will tell you all the important things to know about the Dome, the Cathedral and the other monuments of the Duomo complex: St. John’s Baptistery, Giotto’s Tower and the Opera del Duomo Museum. Make sure you don’t lose this amazing experience! When you see some pictures of the famous Dome, in the future, you can say “I went up there!”
